My Old Auction Buddy

He was at every auction I went to, and I can say he never bid against me. Better yet, he never bid at all, since he was really there to see old (and new) friends and to listen freely share his deep knowledge of local history and the real people that made it all happen. He loved this place of Glengarry and anyone that shared those same feelings.

He would be pleased to have mention of the fact that he was a descendant of Peter Ferguson U.E., an elder in Mr Bethune's founding congregation at Williamstown and progenitor of the so-named Bush Fergusons. His house went to the Rev. John Bethune, now the oldest house in Ontario: the historic Bethune-Thompson House - 1784. This Peter Ferguson of the King's Royal Regiment of New York was a forefather he shared with that eminent Canadian, Judge John Matheson of Kingston, father of Canda's Maple Leaf flag.

We treasure our fond memories of Doug and hope to live in a world where there may in good time be more like him.

A blessing on your frosty pow, old friend!
