    Condoléances: Dear Lynn and Brent,
I was so sorry to hear of your mother's passing, Lynn. She was a marvellous lady and was so much fun as a teacher! I remember her wonderful laugh - never at anyone's expense; just good fun. We all learned so much from her classes and she was always so gracious when I saw her on my visit's home to see Dad. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Linda

    Dear Lynn, Brent and family:
I just wanted to send a small note to say how sorry we were to hear of the passing away of your Mom - my Aunt Doris. Although we haven’t been able to attend the wonderful family gatherings in the last couple of years, we have really fond memories of getting together with the extended McWhinnie clan on many occasions hosted by you and your Mom at your beautiful home, the McWhinnie homestead in Williamstown. Aunt Doris, was so good at keeping the family connected by organizing these wonderful events. She, along with your help, could ALWAYS be counted on to provide a meal that we would rave about for weeks. Her cooking expertise was evident as she would manage to feed upwards of 25 to 30 people on any given occasion, sometimes in two shifts, with ease, lots of laughter, AND be able to share some great stories with us at the same time !!! We reconnected with aunts, uncles, cousins, we ate heartily, and most of all we laughed until our stomachs ached. Those were always fun times and we have Aunt Doris to thank for being the catalyst behind these great gatherings.
When we were young children, while Grandma was still living, we would stay at the farm for a weekend every once in awhile and I remember waking up to the amazing smell of the fresh baked bread that Aunt Doris had just pulled out of the oven. We would sit at the breakfast table and eat slice after slice of toast with lots of butter and brown sugar on them. Nothing could have beat that. It never mattered to her that we would polish off a couple of loaves in a sitting. There was always plenty. Everything Aunt Doris made was phenomenal, but another favourite of mine was her plum pudding with brandy sauce at Christmas time. Second to none.
We have all been blessed to have known Aunt Doris, and her spirit lives on in you Lynn and your family. Our thoughts are with you as you mourn the loss of your Mom.

    Lots of love,
Kathy and Don Matheson and family

Condoléances: I met Doris through the St. Lawrence Branch of the UELAC. Over the past few years I have come to know and appreciate her deep sense of loyalty to the heritage of this area and the knowledge of it that she shared with many. A lady, in every sense of the word, she will be missed by all who have had the privildge of knowing this remarkable person. While I have not been able to extend my condolences to her family in person, rest assured that my heart felt sympathies go to them all. She will be very much missed. Carolyn Goddard

In addition, I respect and appreciate the long hours of research and work she did to uncover our family history. She has left a great legacy to the whole clan, and all future descendants.

Condoléances: Doris will be missed by her many friends in the St. Lawrence Branch and in UELAC. Ever since our first meeting at the 2001 UELAC Conference in Cornwall, I am reminded how her knowledge of the Loyalist history in the Williamstown area has always been freely and bountifully shared. Her assistance with the Ralph Sketch project lead to the discovery of other Loyalist related works by our BC Branches. She will be remembered.
